Release of Information Specialist

About the role

The Release of Information (ROI) Specialist I works within the VitalChart department of VRC Companies, LLC, handling medical record requests for healthcare clients. The role ensures timely, accurate delivery of information while protecting patient privacy and complying with HIPAA and other regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Process Continuing Care and Disability Determination Services ROI requests, with cross‑training on additional request types as needed.
• Validate patient authorizations and ensure compliance with HIPAA, federal, and state statutes.
• Retrieve, upload, and release requested portions of medical charts from electronic or physical repositories.
• Perform quality‑control checks to prevent breaches of protected health information (PHI) and verify accurate invoicing.
• Document all actions, exceptions, and communications in ROI software.
• Alert supervisors to questionable requests, potential breaches, or delays affecting service delivery.
• Respond to requester inquiries in a respectful and efficient manner.

• Excellent understanding of patient privacy rights and HIPAA regulations.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with supervisors and requestors.
• Ability to work independently while keeping the team informed of issues.
