Resident Physician – Clinical Medicine Department

About the role

The Resident Physician will provide clinical leadership and direct patient care within the Department of Clinical Medicine at Avenue Healthcare in Nairobi. The role includes managing outpatient clinics, conducting ward rounds, mentoring junior staff and supporting quality‑improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Run physician outpatient clinics according to hospital schedules, seeing walk‑in and referred patients.
• Conduct timely ward rounds and patient reviews for all internal medicine admissions.
• Document patient history, examinations, investigations and management plans accurately.
• Facilitate admissions, obtain consents, oversee discharges and counsel patients and families on treatment.
• Perform procedures and surgical interventions within licensed privileges while ensuring patient safety.
• Participate in morbidity and mortality audits, incident reporting and continuous quality‑improvement activities.
• Mentor colleagues, deliver continuous medical education and support outreach activities.

Required profile

• MBChB and Master’s degree in Internal Medicine.
• Specialist recognition in Internal Medicine (or fellowship in Cardiology, Endocrinology or Nephrology).
• Valid medical licence to practice in Kenya.
• Minimum five years of relevant clinical experience.

Required skills

• Internal Medicine clinical expertise.
• Cardiology, Endocrinology or Nephrology subspecialty knowledge.
• Conducting clinical audits and morbidity‑mortality reviews.
• Incident reporting and root‑cause analysis.
