Safety & Security Intern

About the role

The Safety & Security Intern will support Save the Children’s operations in Nairobi by assisting the Operations Coordinator with day‑to‑day security coordination. Working under guidance, the intern will help maintain safety procedures, compile reports, and ensure compliance with child safeguarding standards.

Key responsibilities

• Liaise with the Admin Team to track visitors and arrange security briefings before travel or within 24 hours of arrival.
• Support the Operations Coordinator in preparing routine security reports and keeping relevant databases up‑to‑date.
• Assist in gathering daily security information for monthly reporting and decision‑making.
• Help plan and prepare logistical support for field visits.
• Maintain and test the security/communication tree on a monthly basis.
• Guide staff in reporting incidents using the Datix system.
• Contribute to staff training, emergency and contingency planning documentation.
• Provide backup during emergency response and share security procedures with all staff.
• Inspect workplace environments and equipment for regulatory compliance.
• Perform any other related tasks as required.

Required profile

• Works under the supervision of the Operations Coordinator.
• Child Safeguarding Level 3 – may have regular contact with children or young people.

Required skills

• Experience with Datix incident‑reporting system.
