Security and Safety Specialist (P3) – Nairobi

About the role

The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) is seeking a Security and Safety Specialist to provide expert guidance across its Africa portfolio. Based in Nairobi, the incumbent will support headquarters, regional, multi‑country and country offices, ensuring security measures align with UN policies while enabling programme delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support, guidance and advice to Country, Multi‑Country and Regional Offices on security and safety matters.
• Deliver timely and accurate security recommendations, approve mission plans and interpret UN/UN Women security policies.
• Oversee security evaluations, including residential security measures for staff.
• Monitor emerging threats, assess risk impacts on personnel and premises, and advise on mitigation strategies.
• Coordinate with UN Women Security Field personnel and ensure consistent implementation of safety protocols.

Required profile

• Senior‑level professional with at least five years (60 months) of relevant security experience.
• Demonstrated ability to work in international, humanitarian and development contexts.
• Willingness to travel within Africa and internationally as required.
• Strong understanding of UN security frameworks and risk management processes.
