Senior Backend Engineer – Event‑Driven Microservices

About the role

M‑KOPA is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to design and deliver event‑driven microservices that power Africa’s fastest‑growing e‑mobility financing platform. You will join a mission‑driven engineering team focused on clean, affordable transport for riders and entrepreneurs across the continent.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high‑performance .NET microservices using C#.
• Implement event‑driven architectures with Azure Service Bus and comparable messaging systems.
• Deploy and operate containers on Kubernetes, ensuring scalability and reliability.
• Set up observability pipelines with Prometheus and Grafana for monitoring and alerting.
• Collaborate on DevOps practices, including infrastructure‑as‑code and automated testing across all environments.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional software development experience, primarily in backend systems.
• Strong ownership mindset, capable of managing the full software lifecycle from design to production.
• Comfortable working in a fast‑growing, mission‑focused environment.

Required skills

• C# / .NET
• Azure (experience with other clouds such as AWS or GCP is a plus)
• Event‑driven messaging (Service Bus, Kafka, RabbitMQ)
• Kubernetes & Docker
• Prometheus & Grafana
• DevOps, infrastructure as code, automated testing
• Familiarity with AI coding tools (e.g., Claude)
