Senior Legal Counsel – Infrastructure & Land Rights Litigation

About the role

We are seeking a senior legal team to lead complex infrastructure and land‑rights litigation in East Africa, defending community interests against large‑scale projects. The engagement spans 6–18 months and requires immediate deployment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead overall litigation strategy and coordinate stakeholder communication.
• Argue before High Courts, Environment and Land Courts on constitutional and environmental grounds.
• Draft and file motions, interlocutory applications, substantive pleadings, and appellate briefs.
• Manage discovery, evidence gathering, and expert witness engagement.
• Coordinate with external counsel, property experts, and environmental NGOs.
• Negotiate interim relief, protective measures, and settlement options.

Required profile

• 15+ years of litigation experience in Kenya, with a proven track record in constitutional, public and administrative law.
• 10+ years in land/property law and 10+ years in environmental and regulatory compliance law.
• Demonstrated ability to work under tight timelines and high public scrutiny.
• Strong ethical grounding and commitment to rule of law.
• Multilingual ability (English, Swahili, Arabic) is highly valued.
