Senior Research Officer – Cash and Markets (Sudan focus)

About the role

The Senior Research Officer will lead cash and market research for Sudan, based in Nairobi, supporting IMPACT’s emergency response with rigorous data and analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Take overall accountability for the Joint Market Monitoring Initiative (JMMI) research cycle, ensuring monthly price and stock data collection across Sudan.
• Manage additional research cycles, develop objectives, design methodology, analyse data and align outputs with partner programmes.
• Represent IMPACT on cash coordination platforms (Cash Working Group, Transfer Value Task Force) and provide technical advice to partners.
• Supervise two Research Officers, guide data collection, cleaning, analysis and production of briefs, factsheets and reports.
• Produce high‑quality research outputs in English and support capacity‑building for the Sudan mission.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in international studies, development, data science, political science or related field.
• 3‑5 years of research, monitoring, evaluation or cash‑and‑markets experience in humanitarian settings.
• Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills, with ability to translate findings into clear briefs and presentations.
• Fluency in English; Arabic knowledge and familiarity with Sudan’s context are strong assets.
