Technical Specialist, Demographic Dividend (P-4)

About the role

The Technical Specialist (Demographic Dividend) will join UNFPA’s Population and Development Branch in Nairobi, reporting to the Programme Adviser, Demographic Resilience. The incumbent will provide expert analysis on population dynamics and help translate demographic evidence into policies that capture the demographic dividend in countries at early and intermediate stages of transition.

Key responsibilities

• Develop communication and advocacy products that make technical demographic content accessible to policy audiences.
• Provide technical expertise on population dynamics, focusing on early‑ and intermediate‑transition contexts.
• Lead and contribute to advanced demographic and economic analyses, including population projections, National Transfer Accounts, and Population Situation Analyses.
• Support the design and implementation of programmes that integrate demographic evidence into planning and policy.
• Collaborate with UNFPA teams and external partners to ensure evidence‑based, rights‑focused approaches to demographic change.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in demography, economics, social sciences or a related field.
• Significant experience conducting demographic and economic analyses for development programmes.
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex data into clear policy recommendations.
• Experience working in countries at early or intermediate stages of the demographic transition.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for diverse stakeholder audiences.
