Women’s Economic Empowerment Manager – Regional Livestock Programme

About the role

The Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) Manager will lead the gender‑transformative component of Mercy Corps’ 12‑year Regional Livestock Programme (RLP) across Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya. Reporting to senior programme leadership, the manager will ensure that women, youth and other marginalized groups benefit equitably from livestock market opportunities.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and oversee the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) strategy within a Market Systems Development (MSD) framework.
• Integrate gender‑transformative approaches across all programme components and corridors.
• Strengthen the quality, relevance and impact of WEE interventions through evidence‑based market analysis.
• Coordinate with country teams, partners and donors to align activities with programme objectives.
• Monitor, evaluate and report on gender outcomes and ensure compliance with donor requirements.

Required profile

• Deep contextual knowledge of the Horn of Africa drylands and livestock value chains.
• Proven experience in gender equality, social inclusion and market‑systems development.
• Demonstrated leadership in multi‑country programmes and ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
• Fluent in English; relevant advanced degree in development, agriculture, gender studies or a related field.
