About the role
The Youth, Gender and Community Engagement Coordinator will lead inclusive outreach and participation for young persons with disabilities, especially young women, across the Inclusive Africa Program. Based in Nairobi, the role coordinates community and OPD partnerships, safeguards participants, and ensures reasonable accommodations throughout programme delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Design and implement inclusive outreach, selection and participation plans with OPDs and country partners, maintaining calendars, contact protocols and participation records.
- Act as the programme gender focal point, integrating gender analysis, monitoring barriers for young women with disabilities, and advising on adaptations to recruitment, scheduling and learning environments.
- Serve as safeguarding focal point, delivering orientation, managing confidential reporting, and conducting risk assessments for training, travel and digital events.
- Coordinate reasonable accommodation assessments, budgeting and delivery of accessible formats, captioning, sign‑language interpretation and transport support.
- Maintain respectful relationships with OPDs, youth groups and community partners, providing orientation, feedback mechanisms and capacity‑building on inclusive facilitation and ethical storytelling.
- Collect ethical stories of change with informed consent, support youth speakers for conferences and policy engagements, and contribute to monitoring, evaluation and learning reports.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in Gender and Development, Disability Studies, International Development or a related field.
- 8–10 years progressive experience in youth, gender, disability inclusion, community engagement or safeguarding programmes.
- Demonstrated experience working with young persons with disabilities, OPDs and community partners in programme design and delivery.
- Experience as a safeguarding focal point and in gender‑responsive programming, including addressing intersectional barriers.
- Strong knowledge of inclusive facilitation, ethical storytelling, qualitative data collection and secure documentation.
