About the role
The Youth, Gender & Community Engagement Coordinator will ensure that young persons with disabilities, especially young women, are reached, selected, supported and engaged as rights‑holders, leaders and co‑creators across the Inclusive Africa Programme. The role is based in Nairobi and works on‑site with partners, OPDs and community groups.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement inclusive outreach and participation plans with OPDs and country partners, coordinating transparent selection processes and maintaining engagement records.
- Serve as the programme’s gender focal point, integrating gender analysis, monitoring barriers for young women with disabilities and advising on practical adaptations.
- Act as safeguarding focal point, delivering orientation, managing confidential reporting, maintaining secure records and supporting survivor‑centred referrals.
- Coordinate reasonable accommodation assessments, ensuring accessible formats, sign‑language interpretation, transport and venue access are budgeted and delivered.
- Maintain partnerships with OPDs, youth groups and community stakeholders, facilitating capacity‑building on inclusive facilitation, safeguarding and ethical storytelling.
- Collect ethical stories of change, support youth speakers for conferences and policy forums, and contribute to gender, safeguarding and community‑engagement reporting.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in Gender and Development, Disability Studies, Social Work or a related field.
- 8–10 years progressive experience in youth, gender, disability inclusion, community engagement or safeguarding programmes within an NGO environment.
- Demonstrated experience engaging young persons with disabilities and OPDs in programme design and delivery.
- Recognised training in safeguarding, protection from sexual exploitation and abuse, gender equality or disability inclusion (or willingness to obtain).
