Accountant – Retail & iTax

About the role

Brites Management Services is hiring a full-time Accountant based in Utawala, Kenya. The role covers financial reporting, statutory tax compliance, retail invoicing and eTIMS governance, and oversight of accounting software and internal controls.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain daily, weekly and monthly financial statements (Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
• Credit sales, asset adjustments and daily retail cash flows must be accurately coded and keyed into the system.
• Carry out bank reconciliations, petty cash audits and POS system matches to minimise variances.
• File PAYE, SHIF, NSSF and housing levy deductions on time, compute and file VAT and annual corporate income tax returns via the KRA iTax portal, and keep audit-ready records.
• Process and validate invoices and receipts through the KRA eTIMS platform, and supervise sales invoices and credit notes while tracking payables and receivables.
• Reconcile stock levels with the accounting software and flag high-shrinkage areas.
• Optimise accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, Xero) and enforce internal controls on branch expenses, supplier payments and overheads.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related business discipline.
• CPA Section 2, CPA (K) or ACCA is a major advantage.
• At least 3 years of active experience as an Accountant in a retail or supermarket environment.

Required skills

• Practical knowledge of invoicing, iTax and eTIMS in Kenya.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks, Xero, Sage or retail ERPs.
• Advanced Excel (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, financial modelling).
