Assistant Chief Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an Assistant Chief Engineer to support the engineering department of a luxury hotel in Nairobi. The role involves assisting the department head with budget management, preventative maintenance, and ensuring the safety and comfort of guests and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in managing budget, capital expenditures and energy‑conservation initiatives.
• Supervise the distribution, tracking and completion of repair work orders.
• Oversee preventative maintenance programmes for HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical and life‑safety systems.
• Provide 24/7 emergency response, operate generators and fire pumps, and perform equipment repairs.
• Coordinate with contractors for painting, renovations, and equipment replacement.
• Maintain accurate logs, records and ensure proper supplies, equipment and uniforms for the engineering team.
• Support staff training, safety procedures and performance management in the absence of the Director of Engineering.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in a technical field.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar engineering role within a luxury hotel environment.
