Associate Field Manager - Field (Fixed Term)

About the role

GiveDirectly is hiring an Associate Field Manager (AFM) for a fixed-term position based in Kitui County, Kenya. The AFM ensures a high-quality experience for recipients while keeping operations efficient, manages a team of Field Officers, monitors data quality and drives continuous process improvements. The role involves regular travel to field sites in and around Kitui.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the field work plan, run weekly debriefs with field teams and coordinate daily field activities and routes
• Track enrollment progress weekly, escalate challenges to the Field Manager and support pilots of new projects or processes
• Take part in meetings with other AFMs, the Field Manager, Program Manager and Program Director
• Look after team well-being, hold weekly one-on-ones and group check-ins, run performance reviews and mentoring, and handle disciplinary issues
• Check Field Officer deliverables weekly, run spot checks on enrollment, shadow officers and coach survey administration
• Analyze data weekly, submit survey permission and troubleshooting tickets, and collect at least two household surveys per week
• Pilot quality management tools, refine targeting criteria and coordinate extra data collection such as PPI and JMMI
• Submit weekly stock counts, request and update enrollment flyers, and support issuing protective equipment and field gear
• Submit weekly timesheets and transport reconciliations, approve airtime allowances, and engage local administrative leaders and community leaders
• Monitor cultural, logistical and operational risks, update the risk matrix and document staff security risks
• Share impact stories with the content team and support the Field Manager during donor and journalist visits

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies or a related field
• At least 3 years of experience managing teams in the humanitarian or development sector
• Proven people-management track record, especially in remote or resource-scarce settings
• Deep familiarity with Kitui County, including local customs and terrain
• Fluency in the Kamba language is a must
• High integrity, empathy and alignment with GiveDirectly's values

Required skills

• Data analysis and reporting tools such as Excel and Google Sheets
• Digital data tools, community engagement, financial reconciliation or social protection program experience is an added advantage
