Roving Safety Officer

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is seeking a qualified Roving Safety Officer to oversee safety matters for its personnel, assets and facilities across Kenya. The role ensures the proper application of DRC’s Safety Risk Management System and Global Safety Policy, working closely with the Country Safety Coordinator.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and minimise potential safety risks to staff, facilities and assets.
• Update Local Safety Rules and Safety Risk Assessments for all field locations.
• Prepare and share weekly and monthly safety updates with the Country Safety Coordinator.
• Provide safety clearance for staff movements and respond to safety concerns.
• Conduct internal HEIST training and ensure staff awareness of safety policies.
• Maintain the Record of Emergency Data (RED) list and keep it up‑to‑date.
• Support statutory OSHA and fire audits and implement recommendations.
• Develop and maintain Safety Improvement Plans and safety upgrade plans.
• Establish and regularly update communication trees.
• Ensure vehicles meet safety standards and supervise day/night guards.
• Manage fire extinguisher and first‑aid kit servicing.
• Assist in managing critical incidents across DRC locations.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in safety management, preferably within humanitarian or NGO settings.
• Strong knowledge of safety risk management systems, OSHA standards and fire safety procedures.
• Ability to work independently and coordinate with multiple locations.
• Excellent communication skills for briefing staff and visitors.
