About the role
The School Counselor at Sankoré works to advance student well‑being, belonging and holistic development within a diverse school community. Reporting to the Head of Support and Belonging, the role blends individual counseling, system‑building and community engagement while upholding the school’s values of dignity, equity and student agency.
Key responsibilities
- Provide individual and small‑group counseling to students across grade levels, addressing social‑emotional development, mental‑health challenges, behavioral concerns and peer relationships.
- Maintain confidential records, develop individualized support plans and intervene proactively on early warning signs.
- Serve as a primary contact for safeguarding, identify and escalate cases of abuse or neglect in line with school policies.
- Design and deliver school‑wide social‑emotional learning (SEL) programs, integrating well‑being practices into the broader culture.
- Promote student belonging and inclusion, supporting identity exploration and mitigating marginalisation.
- Engage families as partners, offering guidance on emotional and behavioural support and connecting them to external resources.
- Contribute to multi‑tiered support systems (MTSS) by delivering universal, targeted and intensive interventions based on data.
Required profile
- Demonstrated experience providing individual and group counseling to school‑aged students.
- Familiarity with safeguarding and child‑protection procedures.
- Ability to design, implement and evaluate SEL and well‑being programs.
- Strong collaboration skills with teachers, leadership and external partners.
- Cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse family contexts.
