Senior Data Scientist – Nairobi, Kenya

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our analytics team in Nairobi. You will turn complex business questions into data‑driven solutions, building and operationalising advanced models that impact customer insight, risk management and product optimisation.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct exploratory data analysis to uncover trends, issues and opportunities.
• Design, develop, validate, deploy and maintain statistical, machine‑learning and AI models for segmentation, retention, forecasting, risk, fraud detection and optimisation.
• Translate business requirements into analytical problems, perform feature engineering, model selection, validation and performance monitoring.
• Build and maintain end‑to‑end machine‑learning pipelines and integrate solutions into business processes and digital channels.
• Own reporting from requirement gathering to dashboard and visualization delivery using Power BI, Tableau or similar tools.
• Collaborate with data‑engineering teams on data quality, pipeline architecture and warehouse design.
• Monitor model drift, data quality and ensure documentation, explainability and governance compliance.
• Communicate findings and recommendations to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence or data science.
• Proven ability to work across the full analytics stack from data exploration to model production.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and stakeholder‑management skills.

Required skills

• Python and/or R programming.
• Advanced SQL.
• Applied statistics (inference, hypothesis testing, regression, experimental design).
• Machine‑learning algorithms, model selection, validation and optimisation.
• Experience with relational databases, data warehouses and large structured/unstructured datasets.
• Dashboarding tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud) – a plus.
