Senior Regional Climate Action Associate

About the role

IOM, a UN-related organization working on migration, is recruiting a Senior Regional Climate Action Associate for the Regional Office covering East, Horn and Southern Africa. Reporting to the Regional Thematic Specialist on Climate Action, the post supports the Regional Thematic Unit on Climate Action, which gives thematic guidance from IOM Headquarters to Country Offices. The role covers thematic expertise and resource mobilization support.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Regional Thematic Specialist on capacity building, training, monitoring and evaluation, and technical support to Country Offices
• Review, endorse and track project proposals and project reports from Country Offices
• Identify emerging issues, follow thematic developments and help develop thematic policy and reports
• Act as a resource person for Country Offices on policy, research and best practices
• Help develop regional multi-country projects, especially for small Country Offices and countries without IOM presence
• Draft regional thematic guidance notes, information sheets and tools, and prepare internal reports, presentations and briefings
• Contribute to knowledge management and share thematic information between Country Offices and the Regional Office
• Ensure the Climate Action Unit keeps running when the Specialist is away, and attend thematic conferences and meetings

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in social sciences, business administration, environmental and climate studies, migration studies, international relations, law or a related field with four years of relevant experience; or high school diploma with six years of experience
• Experience in migration and climate change, including project management and thematic work
• Experience liaising with governments, national and international institutions, the private sector, academia, think tanks, financial institutions and NGOs
• Experience in the East, Horn and Southern Africa region is an asset
• Fluency in English, French or Spanish
