Waste Truck Driver

About the role

Brites Management Services is hiring a full-time Waste Truck Driver in Karen, Kenya, in the waste management industry. The driver safely operates waste collection trucks, collects and transports waste to approved disposal or treatment sites, and keeps the vehicle in good condition.

Key responsibilities

• Operate waste collection trucks safely according to company procedures and road safety regulations, following assigned routes and schedules.
• Collect and transport waste securely, and park the vehicle properly when not in use.
• Carry out daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, report faults and breakdowns, and report servicing needs to the supervisor.
• Keep the vehicle clean and maintain a clean, responsible driving record.
• Follow traffic, environmental, health and workplace safety rules, practice defensive driving and report accidents, incidents and delays.
• Work with the collection crew during loading and unloading, and report access problems, missed collections and route delays.
• Keep accurate records of trips, fuel usage, accidents and incidents, and give timely reports to the supervisor or operations team.
• Maintain professional communication with customers and the public, and escalate complaints to the supervisor.

Required profile

• Valid heavy commercial driving licence for the assigned vehicle.
• Minimum 6 years' experience as a heavy commercial vehicle driver, including at least 2 years driving waste collection trucks.
• Proven experience operating heavy-duty trucks in an urban or commercial environment.
• Clean, demonstrable driving record and good knowledge of Kenyan traffic rules.

Required skills

• Good knowledge of road safety and defensive driving.
• Basic understanding of vehicle maintenance and fault identification.
• Experience with waste collection equipment and truck-mounted hydraulic systems is an advantage.
