Assistant Accountant

About the role

The International Livestock Research Institute is seeking an Assistant Accountant to support efficient financial operations in Nairobi. The role focuses on timely and accurate processing of supplier invoices, payments, advances, claims and receipts while ensuring compliance with organisational policies, donor requirements and internal control procedures. It also contributes to effective cash management, strong financial controls and high‑quality service delivery to internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Process supplier invoices, payments, advances, claims and receipts in accordance with internal procedures.
• Verify supporting documentation, maintain supplier records and reconcile supplier accounts and pre‑payments.
• Monitor outstanding commitments and support cash‑management activities.
• Ensure compliance with organisational policies, donor requirements and internal control procedures.
• Provide high‑quality service to internal and external stakeholders.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and business continuity within the Finance Department.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Understanding of donor requirements, organisational policies and internal control procedures.
• Attention to detail and ability to work with financial documentation.
