Chief, Security and Safety – Global Security Advisor

About the role

The Chief, Security and Safety/Global Security and Safety Advisor will provide senior leadership for UN Women’s worldwide security, safety, business continuity and crisis management functions. Based in Nairobi, the incumbent will shape policies, frameworks and standards to protect personnel, assets and ensure uninterrupted operations across all UN Women locations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement global security, safety, business continuity and crisis management policies and standards.
• Conduct independent security and safety risk assessments and determine appropriate mitigation measures for all offices.
• Oversee UN Women security and safety personnel, approve security‑related expenditures and manage allocated budgets.
• Represent UN Women in inter‑agency forums and liaise with external security stakeholders.
• Provide strategic advice to senior leadership on high‑impact security issues and resource implications.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in security, safety, business continuity or crisis management at senior level, preferably within an international organization.
• Proven ability to develop and enforce global policies and standards.
• Strong leadership and decision‑making skills with autonomy to act on organization‑wide matters.
• Excellent communication and negotiation abilities with external partners and inter‑agency bodies.
