Embedded Software Developer (IoT & Payments)

About the role

We are seeking an Embedded Software Developer to own the firmware for rugged, cellular‑connected display boards that show real‑time payment transactions across Africa’s mobile‑money ecosystem. You will work on production‑grade firmware for ESP32 microcontrollers, ensuring reliable operation in environments with power spikes and intermittent network coverage.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain C/C++ firmware for ESP32 devices using ESP‑IDF and FreeRTOS.
• Drive HUB75/P10 LED matrix or similar displays efficiently without visual artifacts.
• Implement and manage 3G/4G/5G connectivity, handling AT‑command communication and persistent MQTT cloud connections.
• Design aggressive watchdog and power‑management routines to survive automotive voltage spikes, brownouts, and network drops.
• Integrate the firmware with high‑volume payment gateway APIs to provide real‑time transaction visibility on screens.

Required profile

• 2–3 years of professional experience developing embedded firmware.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and keep hardware alive under harsh electrical conditions.
• Experience with cellular modules and cloud communication protocols.

Required skills

• C and C++ programming.
• FreeRTOS and ESP‑IDF frameworks.
• MQTT protocol implementation.
• 3G/4G/5G AT‑command handling.
• Version control with Git.
