Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Ambulance Operator

About the role

St. John Ambulance is seeking a qualified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to operate ambulances and deliver high‑quality pre‑hospital emergency care in Nairobi’s Westlands area. You will be responsible for safe patient transport, providing basic life support, and supporting advanced‑care providers during emergency and non‑emergency calls.

Key responsibilities

• Operate ambulances safely, performing daily vehicle inspections and safety checks.
• Respond to emergency and non‑emergency calls, delivering Basic Life Support (BLS) within EMT scope.
• Assess, monitor, and transport patients while maintaining clinical judgement under pressure.
• Complete accurate Patient Care Reports and protect patient confidentiality.
• Inspect, clean, disinfect, and restock ambulance equipment and medical supplies.
• Maintain compliance with EMS protocols, traffic regulations, and organizational policies.

Required profile

• Certificate in Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Pre‑Hospital Emergency Care from a recognized institution.
• Valid First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Life Support (ALS) is an advantage.
• At least two (2) years of experience as an ambulance operator or in a related healthcare role.
• Valid Kenyan Driving Licence Class C1 with a clean driving record and Certificate of Good Conduct.
• Physical fitness, emotional resilience, and ability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
