PhD Studentship in Malaria Research – Kilifi

About the role

The PhD studentship offers the opportunity to conduct doctoral research in a high‑quality scientific environment at KEMRI in Kilifi. The successful candidate will undertake research activities, analyse data, contribute to scientific publications and engage in training seminars while working closely with supervisors and research teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute laboratory and field experiments related to malaria research.
• Analyse experimental data using statistical software and prepare manuscripts for peer‑reviewed journals.
• Participate in research training sessions, seminars and collaborative meetings.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Public Health or a related field.
• Demonstrated capacity for scientific publications or conference presentations.
• Motivation to pursue a long‑term career in malaria research and commitment to reside in Kilifi for the study duration.

Required skills

• Proficiency in molecular biology techniques such as PCR, RT‑PCR, sequencing, cell culture and microscopy.
• Experience with data analysis software and statistical methods.
• Hands‑on field data collection and coordination of fieldwork activities.
