Finance & Grants Specialist for Scaling Graduation in Africa

About the role
BRAC International is seeking a Specialist in Finance & Grants to support the Scaling Graduation with Governments in Africa (SGGA) programme. Based in Kenya, the specialist will work across ten African countries to ensure accurate grant reporting, compliance and financial management for a USD 440 million partnership.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure program accounts (foreign‑currency and local‑currency) are accurate, reconciled and aligned with donor requirements.
- Reconcile donor reports with financial system ledgers and consolidate country‑level reports.
- Review reimbursement claims, confirming expense legibility, accuracy and compliance with procedures.
- Support internal and external donor audit processes, providing required documentation and explanations.
- Prepare quarterly donor reports, currency gain/loss statements and other required reporting.
- Monitor expenses to verify funds are used in accordance with the SGGA grant agreement.
- Review and consolidate country and central budgets, conduct variance analysis and coordinate corrective actions.
- Coordinate with finance teams across ten country offices and the Africa Regional Office to ensure consistent financial oversight.
- Maintain a complete, audit‑ready Grants Management File and systematic archiving of financial records.
- Promote safeguarding policies, ensuring team safety and reporting any incidents.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related discipline.
- Professional accounting qualification (CPA, ACCA or equivalent).
- Minimum 5 years progressive experience in grants management, including large, multi‑country restricted donor grants.
- Demonstrated experience managing the full grant lifecycle from start‑up through reporting and close‑out.
- Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret budgets, track expenditures and identify financial risks.
- Familiarity with multi‑currency accounts and segment reporting.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently to program countries.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
