Legal Officer – UNEP Industry and Economy Division (P3)

About the role
The Legal Officer will be based in Nairobi within UNEP’s Industry and Economy Division, Plastics Unit, supporting the Law Division’s work on environmental law and governance. Reporting to the Head of the Plastics Unit and working under the strategic guidance of senior division leaders, the incumbent will contribute to UNEP’s mission of promoting sustainable consumption and production.
Key responsibilities
- Assist the Head of the Plastics Unit in developing and reviewing legal instruments related to plastics, circular economy and chemical safety.
- Collaborate with the Chief of the Industry Innovation Branch and the Deputy Director of the Law Division to align legal advice with UNEP’s policy objectives.
- Support the preparation of policy briefs, legal analyses and guidance documents for governments, industry and the finance sector.
Required profile
- Advanced university degree in law, preferably with specialization in environmental or international law.
- Relevant professional experience in environmental law, policy development or related fields.
