Microbiology Laboratory Analyst

About the role

SGS is seeking a Microbiology Laboratory Analyst to perform microbial testing of samples in accordance with SOPs, national and international standards, and client guidelines. The role supports the laboratory’s QA/QC system, ISO/IEC 17025 compliance and ensures timely delivery of accurate results.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct microbial testing analyses following standard operating procedures, ISO/IEC 17025, GLP and HACCP requirements.
• Maintain compliance with the laboratory’s QA/QC system and ensure accurate, reliable data with proper documentation.
• Adhere to turnaround times, health and safety protocols, and proper sample handling, retention, and disposal.
• Keep up‑to‑date with analytical standards and develop new methods for validation and adoption.
• Organise work records, samples and auxiliary documents for easy retrieval and support 24/7 service delivery.

Required profile

• Degree in Microbiology, Food Nutrition, Food Science and Technology or equivalent.
• Minimum two years of laboratory testing experience, preferably in a multi‑purpose laboratory.
• Good knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 9001, GLP, HACCP and HSE standards.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision, strong communication and organisational skills.

Required skills

• Operation of incubators, ovens, autoclaves and biosafety cabinets.
• Application of microbiological testing protocols and data analysis.
• Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 9001, GLP, HACCP and HSE standards.
