About the role
DG ECHO is seeking a Programme Associate to support its WASH, Shelter and Settlements portfolio from the Nairobi Regional Office. The role contributes to effective humanitarian response through project appraisal, monitoring, reporting and partner coordination.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in appraisal, monitoring and evaluation of projects, including financial assessment of proposals.
- Review partners’ reports, prepare fiche‑ops, and draft humanitarian situation reports.
- Support the Technical Assistant on field visits, map preparation and emergency response activities.
- Maintain contact with partners, act as liaison between HQ thematic units and field programmes, and keep the contracts/grants database up to date.
Required profile
- Relevant first‑level university degree (preferably water engineering) or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum 5 years experience in WASH, Shelter & Settlements, with at least 2 years in an NGO, UN, donor or similar organisation.
- Good knowledge of the EU humanitarian aid system, international NGOs, UN agencies and Red Cross Movement.
- Excellent written and spoken English; French is an asset.
Required skills
- Proficiency with MS Word.
- Proficiency with MS Excel.
What we offer
- Monthly basic salary of KES 350,795 (subject to tax and experience).
- Disability/retirement allowance, 13th month salary and medical coverage.
