Programme Management Officer – Agriculture Transition Finance

About the role

UNEP’s Climate Change Division is seeking an experienced Programme Management Officer to lead the Agriculture Transition Finance component of the Innovative Finance for the Amazon, Cerrado and Chaco (IFACC) initiative. The role will be based in Nairobi and focuses on mobilising public and private capital for sustainable land‑use and climate solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the implementation of UNEP’s activities under the IFACC initiative.
• Coordinate project planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting.
• Manage budgets, procurement, consultants and project documentation.
• Engage with governments, financial institutions, agri‑food companies, NGOs and development partners.
• Support the mobilisation of catalytic capital for sustainable agriculture.
• Maintain donor relationships and ensure timely technical and financial reporting.
• Identify synergies with other UNEP Climate Finance initiatives such as the Restoration Seed Capital Facility, Responsible Commodities Facility and Restoration Factory.
• Explore opportunities to expand IFACC into Sub‑Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia.
• Analyse project data and prepare reports, presentations and visualisations for decision‑making.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in sustainable finance, economics, business analytics, environmental or agricultural economics, or a related quantitative discipline. A first‑level degree plus two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted.
• At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in sustainable finance, sustainable agricultural supply chains, private‑sector engagement and/or project management.
• Minimum 2 years of international experience.
• Experience working with or within private financial institutions (required).
• Experience engaging with agricultural supply‑chain companies and UN entities (desirable).
• Training in data analytics, business analytics or data science (desirable).
