Release of Information Specialist (Full-time)

About the role

The Release of Information (ROI) Specialist supports the VitalChart department by processing medical‑record requests for healthcare clients. Working Monday‑Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, the specialist ensures timely, accurate delivery while protecting patient privacy in accordance with HIPAA and other statutes.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, validate and prioritize ROI requests, primarily for Continuing Care and Disability Determination Services.
• Verify patient authorizations and ensure compliance with federal and state privacy regulations.
• Retrieve and upload requested portions of electronic or physical medical charts using ROI software.
• Perform quality‑control checks to prevent breaches of protected health information (PHI) and adjust invoicing as needed.
• Communicate regularly with the ROI Area Manager or Team Leader about quality, connectivity or client concerns.
• Reject non‑compliant requests and return physical records to their proper location.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality.
• Ability to work independently while meeting strict turnaround times.
• Effective communication skills for interaction with managers and clients.
• Basic understanding of healthcare documentation and privacy statutes.

Required skills

• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and PHI handling.
• Familiarity with ROI or medical‑record management software.
• Experience with electronic and physical record retrieval.
