Senior Climate & Health Research Scientist

About the role

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is seeking a senior‑level Climate and Health Research Scientist to lead and advance research on the interlinkages between climate change and health within its Health and Wellbeing Theme.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute studies that assess vulnerability, quantify impacts, model climate‑health relationships, and evaluate adaptation, mitigation and resilience solutions.
• Lead proposal development and scientific writing on climate‑health topics.
• Provide technical oversight to multidisciplinary teams spanning climate science, epidemiology, policy, communications and data science.
• Supervise, mentor and train early‑ and mid‑career researchers.
• Engage with policy makers, translate knowledge and communicate findings to diverse audiences.
• Build and maintain strategic partnerships with African and global research institutions and support consortium coordination.
• Contribute to strengthening APHRC’s climate and environmental health research portfolio and identify emerging research opportunities.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent experience in climate science, public health, epidemiology or a related discipline.
• Minimum 6 years of research experience on climate‑health topics, with a strong publication record.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary research projects and secure external funding.
• Experience supervising and mentoring junior researchers.
• Excellent communication skills for policy engagement and knowledge translation.
