Accountant I

About the role

The Thika Technical Training Institute is seeking an Accountant I to manage its financial operations and ensure compliance with government and donor regulations. The role involves preparing financial statements, overseeing cash management, and maintaining robust accounting systems.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze accounting information related to assets, liabilities and capital.
• Prepare financial statements and reports to reflect current and projected financial positions.
• Develop and install effective financial management systems and procedures.
• Design and maintain financial information systems covering the general ledger, asset management and revenue collection.
• Ensure timely banking of funds and accurate cash collection processes.
• Coordinate preparation of payment vouchers, cheque books, cash book records and related entries.
• Reconcile general ledger control accounts, cash books, bank transactions and statutory levy records.
• Control and account for assets, securities and related documentation.
• Oversee secure storage and accessibility of financial and accounting documents.

Required profile

• At least four (4) years of experience in a comparable Accountant II/Finance Officer II role.
• Bachelor's degree in Commerce (Accounting/Finance), Finance, Economics, Business Administration or related field.
• Part III of the Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (CPAK) examination or equivalent.
• Registered member in good standing with the Institute of Public Accountants Kenya (ICPAK).
• Certificate in relevant computer accounting packages.
• Demonstrated managerial, administrative and professional competence.
