Accountant

About the role

InformAction is hiring a full-time Accountant based in Westlands, Nairobi. The role covers general accounting, budget monitoring, payroll, and grant accounting, working closely with the Head of Finance.

Key responsibilities

• Implement accounting policies and procedures and maintain financial controls over expenditures and assets.
• Ensure all transactions are authorized, accurately recorded, documented and filed for reporting and audits.
• Assist with financial forecasts, annual budgets and fund requests, and monitor budgets so projects stay within budget.
• Prepare periodic financial reports and monthly bank reconciliations for the Head of Finance's approval.
• Maintain the petty cash account and ensure payments are supported by approved vouchers and receipts.
• Prepare payroll, including staff salaries, statutory deductions (tax, NHIF, NSSF) and related returns.
• Manage project funds, post grant disbursements and prepare related records and reports.
• Support grantee organizations with financial management, reporting and compliance, and support audits, donor reporting and grant management.
• Liaise with the HR and Administration Officer on administration expenses and other duties assigned by the Head of Finance.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field from a recognized university.
• Certified Public Accountant (Kenya) and registered member of ICPAK, or in the process of registration.
• At least four years of relevant experience in a similar role.
• Knowledge of Kenyan statutory requirements for payroll, tax and NGO compliance.
• A Certificate of Good Conduct.

Required skills

• Strong skills in budgeting, financial analysis, reporting and grant accounting.
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams and explain financial concepts clearly.
