About the role
The Refugee Consortium of Kenya is seeking an Advocacy Officer to lead policy and legislative advocacy within its Legal Aid and Governance Pillar. Based in Nairobi, the role focuses on influencing laws, policies and institutional frameworks that affect refugees, asylum‑seekers and other forcibly displaced persons.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor and analyse national and county laws, policies, regulations and strategies impacting displaced populations.
- Identify gaps and opportunities for reform and develop targeted advocacy responses.
- Lead engagement with government ministries, Parliament, county assemblies and other decision‑makers on priority issues.
- Provide technical input for the development, review and implementation of legislation and policies related to refugee protection and inclusion.
- Track legislative processes, devise follow‑up strategies and support strategic and public‑interest litigation through research and policy analysis.
- Conduct and coordinate research on refugee protection, livelihoods and governance to inform advocacy priorities.
- Produce policy briefs, position papers, advocacy briefs and other evidence‑based advocacy products.
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with government bodies, UN agencies, civil society and refugee‑led organisations.
- Represent RCK in technical working groups, policy forums and consultations.
