Legal and Risk Officer, P3

About the role

The United Nations is recruiting a Legal and Risk Officer (P3) based in Nairobi, Westlands. The position requires a strong background in law and risk-related work, with a focus on compliance, ethics, grievance mechanisms and enterprise risk management.

Required profile

• An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in law or a related field; a first-level degree plus two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in its place.
• A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in legal work, advisory services, compliance, administration, programme management or a related field.
• Experience supporting work in one or more of: conduct and discipline, enterprise risk management, grievance redress or accountability mechanisms, environmental and social safeguards, ethics, compliance or human resources policy.
• Desirable: experience gathering and analysing information, preparing legal or policy advice, drafting reports and recommendations, and supporting the resolution of complex or sensitive matters.
• Desirable: experience with confidential or sensitive cases, applying information-management and data-protection requirements, and coordinating across legal, human resources, ethics, oversight, risk management, programme or compliance functions.
• Desirable: experience with stakeholder grievance mechanisms, dispute-resolution processes, compliance reviews or environmental and social accountability frameworks, and experience in the UN Common System or a comparable international, intergovernmental, public-sector or non-profit organisation.
• Desirable: experience in a multicultural setting and two years or more in data analytics or a related area.
