Assistant Pharmaceutical Technologist I

About the role

The Assistant Pharmaceutical Technologist I will support the pharmacy team by ensuring safe and accurate medication dispensing, maintaining stock levels, and providing drug information to patients and healthcare staff.

Key responsibilities

• Review patients’ treatment sheets and prescriptions for dosing accuracy, drug interactions and appropriate route of administration.
• Provide drug information to patients, clinical officers, nurses and other medical personnel.
• Enter prescription orders into the computer system, generate labels and post dispensed drugs for billing.
• Place orders for stock replenishment, receive deliveries and verify against transfer documents.
• Monitor drug expiry dates, conduct regular stock counts and analyse stock movements.
• Compound, re‑package and dilute medications according to established guidelines.
• Counsel patients to promote adherence to therapy.
• Train and supervise pharmaceutical technologist interns.
• Prepare periodic management reports and explain stock variances.
• Perform any other duties assigned by management.

Required profile

• Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology or equivalent from a recognized institution.
• At least six (6) years of post‑qualification work experience.
• Valid registration certificate from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
• Computer literacy.
