Bakery Technician

About the role

Brites Management Services is hiring a Bakery Technician in Mlolongo. The technician installs, inspects, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs bakery production equipment so that production runs continuously with minimal downtime. The role supports preventive maintenance programmes, responds to breakdowns and ensures machinery operates safely and efficiently according to company standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on ovens, mixers, proofers, conveyors, slicers, packaging machines and other processing equipment, and carry out routine inspections.
• Diagnose equipment failures, respond to emergency breakdowns during production and coordinate major repairs with external service providers.
• Develop and run preventive maintenance schedules, keep maintenance records, service logs and equipment history, and test repaired equipment before returning it to production.
• Ensure maintenance work complies with occupational health and safety rules, follow lockout/tagout procedures and support GMP and food safety compliance.
• Monitor spare parts and consumables, recommend procurement of replacement parts and help control maintenance costs.
• Identify ways to improve equipment reliability and production efficiency, advise production teams and report recurring failures.
• Maintain accurate maintenance reports, service records and breakdown logs, and prepare schedules and performance reports.

Required profile

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related technical field.
• At least 5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience in a bakery or food manufacturing environment is an added advantage.

Required skills

• Knowledge of preventive maintenance systems and industrial machinery.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Understanding of industrial automation and manufacturing equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, engineering drawings and electrical schematics.
