About the role
The Battery End‑of‑Life Consultant will support the Sustainable Mobility Unit in developing a regional hub‑and‑spoke system for the collection, consolidation, and transboundary shipment of end‑of‑life electric‑vehicle batteries across Caribbean Island countries.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare a comprehensive assessment report to inform the design of the hub‑and‑spoke model.
- Conduct a stock‑take of battery imports, exports, and EV registrations in the Caribbean.
- Analyse current battery waste flows, projected volumes, and existing disposal and export practices.
- Assess infrastructure readiness, including interim storage, collection systems, and transport capabilities.
- Map existing shipping routes, logistics providers, aggregation opportunities, and safety requirements for trans‑frontier shipment.
- Identify institutional gaps and functional barriers such as regulatory, technical, and logistical constraints.
- Map key stakeholders (Basel Focal Points, customs authorities, waste operators, shipping companies, etc.) and define their potential roles.
