Behavioural Science Consultant – Long-Term Agreement (Remote)

About the role

UNICEF is seeking an individual consultant to provide long‑term, on‑demand behavioural science expertise to its country offices, regional offices and Centres of Excellence. The consultant will work remotely, supporting the full programme cycle—from research and diagnosis to design and evaluation—across health, nutrition, education, child protection, WASH, social policy and climate resilience.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct rigorous behavioural diagnoses to identify psychological, social, cultural and structural drivers of behaviour.
• Design, test and refine evidence‑based interventions using behavioural economics, decision science and implementation science.
• Apply advanced analytical methods, including machine learning, large language models, agent‑based simulation, network and geospatial analysis, and adaptive experimentation.
• Collaborate with UNICEF teams to translate behavioural findings into actionable programme decisions.
• Provide guidance throughout research, design and evaluation phases, ensuring methodological rigour and relevance.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (PhD or Master’s) in behavioural science, economics, psychology, public health or a related field.
• Proven experience applying behavioural science methods to development or humanitarian programmes.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and deliver high‑quality outputs on a remote basis.
