Business Origination Manager (Food and Agriculture)

About the role

The Business Origination Manager will lead the development and assessment of credit proposals for the Food & Agriculture (F&A) sector. This senior role combines deep sector knowledge with rigorous credit analysis to support strategic lending decisions at Equity Bank Kenya.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and analyse F&A credit proposals for presentation to the Executive Committee, ensuring robust financial analysis and risk assessment.
• Present F&A business cases to the Credit Risk Department and relevant Credit Committees.
• Contribute to the development, review, and enhancement of F&A risk policies in line with industry and regulatory changes.
• Develop and maintain standardized F&A business templates and client profiling criteria.
• Design and update business review matrices across key agricultural and food value chains.
• Provide advisory support on sector trends, subsector dynamics, and emerging risk considerations.
• Conduct regular portfolio reviews, including stress testing against macro‑economic and industry risk factors.
• Develop and implement Environmental and Social (E&S) compliance policies for F&A lending.
• Train branch staff and support resolution of credit‑risk issues.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Economics, Agribusiness, Food Sciences, Agriculture Finance or a related field.
• Professional qualifications such as AKIB, ACIB, CPA, ACCA, CFA are an advantage.
• Minimum eight (8) years of progressive experience in the Food & Agriculture sector, with at least five (5) years in technical credit analysis within banking or financial services.
• Proven ability to assess client financial needs and structure credit proposals aligned to business and risk requirements.
• Strong capability in analysing financial statements and translating them into standardized credit appraisals.
