Chemist - Lubricants Laboratory

About the role

A leading Oil and Gas company, recruited through Stratostaff East Africa, is looking for a Chemist in Nairobi to run its lubricants laboratory efficiently. The role supports after-sales service to lubricants customers by providing reliable laboratory analysis while maintaining high customer service standards, HSEQ and statutory compliance, and keeping laboratory systems, records, consumables and reporting effective.

Key responsibilities

• Enforce HSEQ standards and statutory requirements and compile monthly HSSEQ indicators
• Organise and lead the emergency crew team
• Ensure customer complaints are recorded and resolved promptly, and that samples are analysed and reported within 48 hours
• Develop and implement a laboratory process improvement every quarter
• Follow up purchase requisitions so local purchase orders are generated on time
• Take part in internal and external laboratory audits
• Maintain an active inventory, preventive maintenance schedule and repair system, and keep documents and records controlled and archived
• Check and optimise stock levels, track stock movements and prepare reorder schedules
• Prepare and submit monthly laboratory invoicing

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Analytical Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry, or equivalent from a recognised university
• Three years of hands-on experience in a busy processing plant or laboratory is desirable, with emphasis on analytical skills and safety practices
• Team player, flexible and able to work with minimum supervision
• Customer service orientation, planning, organisation and follow-up skills

Required skills

• Strong laboratory analysis and quality management skills
• Familiarity with laboratory quality management and audit readiness
• Conversant with computer packages for data processing, analysis and reporting
• Document and records management discipline, inventory and consumables control, and stakeholder communication
