Chief Education (P-4) – Fixed Term – Nairobi

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a Chief Education to lead the design, implementation and monitoring of education programmes in Kenya. Reporting to the Deputy Representative, the incumbent will oversee strategic planning and delivery of inclusive pre‑primary, primary, secondary and TVET initiatives for marginalized children.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and supervise education strategies aligned with UNICEF’s results‑based management approach.
• Coordinate a multidisciplinary team to ensure programme milestones are met on time and within budget.
• Collaborate with government, donors and civil society to improve enrolment, retention and learning outcomes, especially in ASAL counties and informal settlements.
• Provide technical guidance on policy development, disaster‑responsive education, water, sanitation and hygiene integration, and gender‑sensitive sanitation.
• Monitor and report on programme performance, ensuring compliance with UNICEF’s strategic plans and standards.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in Education, International Development or a related field.
• Extensive experience (minimum 8 years) managing large‑scale education programmes in low‑resource settings.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and work closely with government ministries and partners.
• Strong understanding of inclusive education, disability inclusion and refugee education.
