Chief of Strategic Planning and Monitoring Unit

About the role

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN‑Habitat) is seeking a senior leader to head its Strategic Planning and Monitoring Unit within the Corporate Management Division in Nairobi. The incumbent will guide the development and implementation of multi‑year strategic plans, results frameworks, and corporate monitoring processes that support sustainable urban development worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate multi‑year strategic plans and annual work‑planning processes in line with UN‑Habitat timelines and guidelines.
• Guide the development and revision of results frameworks, including indicators, drawing on lessons learned and best practices.
• Lead corporate monitoring and reporting for the Strategic Plan 2026‑2029 and the Annual Work Programme.
• Provide inputs to project design, supporting theory of change and logical framework development from planning, monitoring and evaluation perspectives.
• Manage and supervise the Strategic Planning Unit, ensuring coherent work programmes and high‑quality drafts.
• Prepare substantive inputs for position papers and reports presented to intergovernmental bodies such as the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budget Questions, ECOSOC, the General Assembly, and the UN‑Habitat Executive Board.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in strategic planning, results‑based management and corporate monitoring within an international or UN context.
• Proven ability to coordinate multi‑stakeholder processes and align diverse projects with strategic objectives.
• Strong analytical skills to develop and revise indicators and results frameworks.
• Experience in preparing policy papers and reports for high‑level intergovernmental bodies.
• Leadership experience managing a multidisciplinary unit and supervising staff.
