Chief Operations Officer – General Insurance

About the role

The Chief Operations Officer will lead the core operational functions of a leading general insurance company in Kenya, reporting directly to the CEO. This senior position is responsible for translating strategy into measurable operational results and ensuring efficient, compliant, and customer‑focused service delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement operational strategies aligned with the company’s vision, overseeing underwriting, claims, legal and support functions.
• Monitor portfolio quality, pricing discipline, loss trends and ensure robust underwriting controls.
• Oversee claims processing to achieve timely, fair settlements while controlling costs and preventing fraud.
• Ensure compliance with insurance regulations, manage operational risks and maintain internal controls.
• Establish KPIs, performance dashboards and drive continuous improvement and digital transformation.
• Collaborate with Finance on budgeting, cost optimisation and financial targets.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Business Administration, Strategic Management, Finance, Insurance or related field (or equivalent Bachelor’s with extensive experience).
• Minimum 8–10 years of senior experience in insurance operations, including underwriting and claims management.
• Professional insurance qualification (ACII/IIK) and membership in a relevant professional body.
