Chief Operations Officer

About the role

The Chief Operations Officer provides operational leadership to ensure high‑quality, patient‑centered healthcare services. Reporting to the CEO, the COO oversees all non‑clinical functions, driving efficiency, compliance and financial sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all non‑clinical operations, translating hospital strategy into departmental plans with measurable targets.
• Monitor performance through dashboards and KPIs, intervening promptly to address gaps.
• Oversee budgeting, cost control, procurement and inventory management while identifying cost‑saving opportunities.
• Maintain safe, accessible facilities and reliable hospital information systems, including cybersecurity and digital transformation initiatives.
• Provide strategic oversight of recruitment, workforce planning, staff development and performance management.
• Guide marketing, communication and business development to strengthen the hospital’s brand and expand services.
• Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, accreditation standards and internal policies, managing operational risk and reporting to the CEO.
• Uphold the institution’s Christian values, promoting spiritual well‑being among staff, patients and the community.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Management, Public Health or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience, with at least 5 years in senior management within a hospital, preferably a mission hospital.
• Member of a relevant professional body in good standing.

• Hospital operations management, including patient flow optimization and clinical support services.
• Financial management and understanding of healthcare financing models.
• Procurement and supply chain management.
• Project management and stakeholder engagement.
• Knowledge of Kenyan healthcare regulations, accreditation and compliance frameworks.
• Hospital information systems, cybersecurity and digital transformation.
