Clinical Nurse (In Vitro Fertilization)

About the role

The Clinical Nurse (In Vitro Fertilization) will join the reproductive medicine team at Aga Khan Hospitals in Nairobi, providing comprehensive nursing care throughout the patients' fertility journey. This role combines clinical assessment, patient education, and procedural support in a fast‑paced IVF environment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct full nursing assessments, coordinate appointments, investigations and laboratory services for fertility patients.
• Educate patients on IVF protocols, medication administration, self‑injections and post‑treatment care while offering emotional support.
• Perform nursing procedures such as vital signs monitoring, venipuncture, IV cannulation, specimen collection, pregnancy testing and medication administration.
• Assist clinicians during ultrasound monitoring, oocyte retrieval, embryo transfer, intrauterine insemination, hysteroscopy, endometrial biopsy and fertility preservation procedures.
• Ensure accurate documentation, patient identification, specimen labeling and safe handling of gametes and embryos.
• Participate in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives and clinical audits.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent with current registration/licensure in Kenya.
• Minimum three years post‑registration clinical nursing experience, including at least two years in reproductive medicine, women’s health, gynaecology, obstetrics or IVF services.
• Demonstrated knowledge of IVF, ICSI, IUI, embryo transfer, fertility medications and reproductive endocrinology.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.

Required skills

• IV cannulation and venipuncture.
• Specimen collection and handling.
• Ultrasound monitoring during fertility procedures.
• Assistance with oocyte retrieval, embryo transfer and intrauterine insemination (IUI).
• Hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy support.
• Administration of fertility medications and monitoring for treatment‑related complications.
