Communication and Outreach Consultant

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Communication and Outreach Consultant to support the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) Secretariat. The consultant will develop and implement communication and outreach activities that raise awareness of AMCEN’s priorities, decisions, programmes and achievements among Member States, development partners, media, civil society, youth, academia and the broader public.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare an inception report and detailed work plan within two weeks of assignment start.
• Develop a comprehensive AMCEN communications and visibility strategy.
• Produce communication packages for meetings and special events, including multimedia products such as infographics, videos and visual content.
• Draft technical documents (briefs, reports, policy notes) and meeting documentation (agendas, summaries, outcomes).
• Provide monthly progress reports and a final report summarising outputs and recommendations.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, International Relations, Environmental Policy or a related field.
• A first‑level university degree combined with at least two years of relevant experience may be considered.

Required skills

• Multimedia content creation (infographics, videos, visual assets)
