Community Oral Health Officer – Dental Care

About the role

Community Oral Health Officer responsible for examining and treating patients’ teeth and gums, taking radiographs and providing dental care instruction within a hospital setting. The role requires a diploma in Community Oral Health, professional membership and at least one year of experience in a busy dental clinic.

Key responsibilities

• Examine patients’ teeth and mouth, assess dental conditions and needs.
• Take, develop, mount and trace radiographs, and analyse x‑rays for treatment planning.
• Perform general dental treatments such as cavity filling, tooth restoration, crown and bridge work, and extraction of severely damaged teeth.
• Provide gum disease prevention, oral hygiene instruction and prescribe appropriate medication.
• Make dental impressions for study casts and document patient dental history and observations.
• Supervise clinic staff, manage equipment and supplies procurement, and maintain accurate bookkeeping.

Required profile

• Diploma in Community Oral Health.
• Membership with a recognised professional body.
• Minimum of one year’s experience in a busy dental clinic.

Required skills

• Radiography and radiograph interpretation.
• Dental charting and treatment planning.
• Dental restoration techniques (fillings, crowns, bridges).
• Impression taking for study casts.
