Dental Assistant Intern – Hands‑on Clinic Experience

About the role

A leading dental clinic in Nairobi is seeking motivated recent graduates and final‑year students to join as Dental Assistant Interns. This entry‑level internship offers hands‑on experience in chair‑side assistance, infection control, radiography and clinic administration under close supervision.

Key responsibilities

• Welcome patients, confirm appointments and escort them to the treatment suite.
• Prepare the treatment suite, instruments and materials before each procedure.
• Support the dentist during procedures, anticipating needs under supervision.
• Handle, pass and account for dental instruments correctly.
• Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment following infection‑control protocols.
• Disinfect surfaces, dispose of clinical waste safely and restock consumables.
• Observe and assist with dental X‑rays under dentist supervision, adhering to radiation safety.
• Assist with laboratory case preparation, dispatch, receipt and recording.
• Update and file patient records, treatment notes and consent forms accurately.
• Support patient education on oral hygiene and post‑treatment care.
• Help with answering calls, scheduling appointments, billing queries and general office tasks.
• Attend clinic meetings, training sessions and the day‑to‑day learning programme.

Required profile

• Diploma or Certificate in Dental Assisting, Dental Technology, Oral Health or a related field, or final‑year student.
• No prior work experience required; clinical attachment is a plus.
• Basic understanding of dental instruments, infection control and hygiene standards.
• Warm, professional and caring attitude towards patients.
• Strong attention to detail, cleanliness and safety.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to stay calm and focused in a busy clinic environment.
• Integrity and discretion in handling patient information.
• Willingness to learn, take direction and work as part of a team.
