Departmental Technician - Hospitality, Culinary Arts and Food Production

About the role

Zetech University is recruiting two Departmental Technicians for its Hospitality, Culinary Arts and Food Production programme. The role provides technical and practical support for Culinary Arts and Hospitality training and ensures effective management of kitchens, restaurants and equipment. Key responsibilities

• Provide shift-based technical support across two kitchens and two restaurants, including preparation, supervision, cleaning, equipment management and post-practical activities.
• Enforce and promote compliance with food safety, hygiene, occupational health and safety requirements in kitchens, restaurants and practical areas.
• Monitor the use of ingredients, equipment and other resources, and keep records of issues, returns, damages and wastage.
• Assist in receiving, storing, preparing and issuing ingredients, utensils and cutlery for practical activities.
• Check equipment, tools and facilities regularly and report faults, damage or maintenance needs.
• Operate, maintain and monitor kitchen, food production and restaurant equipment safely and efficiently.
• Keep kitchens and restaurants set up, clean, safe and ready for practical sessions and service.
• Support lecturers and instructors during practical sessions, including demonstrations, student activities and assessments.

Required profile

• Diploma in Hospitality Management, Culinary Arts, Food Production, Food and Beverage Management or a related field from a recognised institution.
• Practical experience in a commercial kitchen, restaurant, hospitality training institution or similar is an added advantage.
• Professional certification or specialised training in food production, culinary arts, food safety or related areas is an added advantage.

Required skills

• Knowledge of food safety, hygiene and occupational health and safety, and proper handling of kitchen equipment and materials.
• Good communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
